om sproget / on language

This blog will be written in both English and Danish. If you, as a reader, have trouble with one of those languages and would like a translation, please let me know, and I will do my best to oblige. If you are a Danish reader, please know that I am just learning, and my Danish is far from perfect. If you would like to suggest corrections please do so. Email me at somedayashtrays@gmail.com.

Jeg hader at være syg, men…

Today, I was rather sick. I stayed in my apartment all day, and read blogs, and played with last.fm. I didn’t really discover any artists that were new, but I did come across a couple exciting things:

1. Swedish shoegazers The Radio Dept. appear to have every single song from every single album available for full preview at last.fm. This is pretty awesome. Even though most of the songs, sadly, aren’t available for download, a few of them are, such as The Worst Taste in Music, one of my favorites.

If you can, listen to It’s Personal, from the album Pet Grief, and Your Father, from Lesser Matters -- those two are my very favorites.

2. Pelle Carlberg, also from Sweden, has a new album, “In a Nutshell,” out 28. March. The first single, I Love You, You Imbecile, is available for download. I think it’s probably my favorite Pelle song -- all cute and twee with male/female vocals (Ida Maria, from Norway, I believe, guests) -- just the sweetest thing ever. You know.

In other Pelle Carlberg news, someone has posted a YouTube video of him covering Elton John’s Rocketman on his recent Italian tour. It’s very, very acoustic, rather rough, and not exactly high quality, but at the same time, it’s an extremely endearing recording. This goes without saying -- everything about Pelle Carlberg is endearing -- however, this is the most endearing I’ve ever thought him. He reminds me a bit of a sort of Buddy Holly-Woody Allen hybrid here. I could watch this over and over.
