om sproget / on language

This blog will be written in both English and Danish. If you, as a reader, have trouble with one of those languages and would like a translation, please let me know, and I will do my best to oblige. If you are a Danish reader, please know that I am just learning, and my Danish is far from perfect. If you would like to suggest corrections please do so. Email me at somedayashtrays@gmail.com.

I’ve been doing a lot of writing lately -- just not on here. Suffice it to say I haven’t had much I’ve wanted to say about music lately. Well, there is this, though:

Recently I was sent Sopa Deliciosa, a huge (44 songs) compilation. The musical representation is very diverse and, I thought, quite enjoyable. One of the things I found most intriguing about it was that, while the album was released in Denmark and the majority of the artists are Danish, of those from the US, two songs came from Portland. Where I live. Nice.

I played a few songs from the comp last night, and will probably play a few more in the future. Speaking of which, here is last night’s playlist:

1. Mom & Dad – the Bear Quartet (SV)
2. Grey Days – the Concretes (SV)
3. Mind Blindness – Dirty on Purpose
4. This Time – Bertine Zetlitz (NW)
5. Shoreline – Broder Daniel (SV)
6. A Year Before the Future – Typhoon
7. Stay (Just a Little Bit More) – the Dø (FL)
8. Dogs – Emily Frembgen
9. When Lights Go Out – Club 8 (SV)
10. Bachelor Kisses – the Radio Dept. (SV)
11. The Devil Behind Me – My Twin (DK)
12. Everything’s Gone – Bang Gang (IS)
13. My Best Friend – Hello Saferide (SV)
14. A Postcard to Nina – Jens Lekman (SV)
15. Hip – Marybell Katastrophy (DK)

I know -- a lot from Sweden, and last week was a lot from Denmark. I will try to be more even next time. On the other hand, I did manage to hit all five of the official Nordic countries on this show, something I don’t think I’ve ever done before.

I’ll have a song to download from the show Friday. For tracks from this show, try the podcast.
